Digital Projection, Inc. Named Exclusive Provider Of Large-Venue Digital Projection Systems For Toronto International Film Festival
Toronto, ON, September 6, 2000 – Digital Projection, Inc. (DPI) – a wholly owned subsidiary of Imax Corporation (Nasdaq: IMAX; TSE:IMX) – today announced that it has been selected as the exclusive provider of digital projection systems at the Toronto Film Festival. DPI’s DLP™ technology-based projectors are being used for the second consecutive year at this year’s festival taking place in Toronto from September 7-16, 2000. DPI was also the exclusive supplier of digital projection systems to both the Sundance and Telluride Film festivals and were suppliers to previous Cannes festivals. DPI’s systems are used at these events to digitally project movies that were digitally created and/or transferred from celluloid film.
“The Toronto International Film Festival has grown to be one of the leading film festivals of the world, and as such, goes to great efforts to ensure world-calibre presentations in both film and digital video,” said Hans Burgschmidt, the Festival’s technical director. “DPI is a world leader in digital projection equipment and exceeds the standards we have set in the area of brightness and resolution. We feel that DPI's systems are without doubt at the leading edge of the upcoming digital video revolution.”
“We’re happy that the Toronto Film Festival has again selected our digital projectors as the display tools to provide a state-of-the art showcase for these innovative works. Digital display technology creates new options for independent filmmakers to exhibit their creative content while introducing a new quality standard to viewers,” said Chuck Collins, Digital Projection, Inc.’s national market development manager. “Large-scale digital projection of motion pictures is now a reality and each year more filmmakers are choosing to go digital because of the clarity, brightness and economics associated with the display of digital video.”
The technology used in DPI’s digital projection systems offer viewers, filmmakers and the movie making industry another opportunity to experience the latest “off-the-shelf” electronic projection technology based on Texas Instruments DLP™ imaging platform for the critical display of high resolution video, computer or HDTV sources.
Since 1997, Digital Projection’s displays have been utilized in movie premiers, screening rooms, postproduction studios, special effects suites, campus and independent theatres for projecting ultra-bright and clear content that was created from or transferred to digital sources.
